DHS Calls Dallas Beheading Preventable as Trump Vows Aggressive Prosecution

DHS labels the case preventable, pointing to the suspect's earlier ICE release when Cuba declined deportation.

Overview

  • Dallas police say 50-year-old Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah was attacked with a machete at the Downtown Suites on Sept. 10 and beheaded in front of his wife and son.
  • Co-worker Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, was arrested at the scene, charged with capital murder, and remains in Dallas County Jail without bond.
  • ICE records show Cobos-Martinez had a final order of removal to Cuba and was released under supervision on Jan. 13 after Cuba refused repatriation; a federal detainer is now in place.
  • DHS called the killing “completely preventable” and highlighted plans to remove criminal noncitizens to third countries, while President Donald Trump blamed prior policies and pledged prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
  • India’s Houston consulate is assisting the family as the community mourns, with a fundraiser surpassing $320,000 and a funeral held Sept. 13 in Flower Mound, Texas.
