DHS Accuses Duckworth Staffer of Impersonating Lawyer to Access ICE Detainee

ICE set a Nov. 17 deadline for the senator’s response after releasing surveillance imagery with a detailed letter.

Overview

  • An ICE letter dated Nov. 12 alleges Constituent Outreach Coordinator Edward York entered the St. Louis field office on Oct. 29 and claimed to be the attorney for detainee Jose Ismeal Ayuzo Sandoval.
  • DHS says York met the detainee and obtained a signed G-28 authorization, then a Collinsville firm filed a G-28 four days later that lacked the detainee’s signature, prompting questions about a possible cover-up.
  • The agency says it found no record that York is a licensed attorney and cited surveillance imagery as well as a local DemocratsFacebook post describing an intent to misrepresent to law enforcement.
  • ICE asked Duckworth’s office to provide information by Nov. 17 on York’s employment, whether government forms were falsified, and whether any other staff were aware.
  • Reports note Duckworth’s office has not provided a substantive public response as the matter faces administrative scrutiny that could carry legal consequences if the allegations are substantiated.
