A tentative agreement between delivery service DHL Express Canada and its union was reached Wednesday after almost a year of negotiations. A ratification vote is expected in the coming days.

Overview

  • The pact follows DHL’s June 8 lockout of more than 2,100 couriers, drivers and warehouse staff and a subsequent Unifor strike
  • Under the four-year deal, wages rise by a cumulative 15.75 percent retroactive to Jan. 1, 2025, and employees receive a $500 lump-sum bonus
  • New contract terms guarantee union input on route distances and compensation for drivers travelling to meet-up points
  • Federal Bill C-58’s ban on replacement workers forced DHL to suspend operations on June 20 and led Unifor to file a complaint with the Canada Industrial Relations Board
  • DHL Express Canada will resume nationwide service once union members vote to ratify the tentative agreement
