Overview

  • The SIT has completed digs at roughly 16 sites in Dharmasthala but recovered confirmed human remains only at Site 6 and near Site 11, while a deep excavation at Site 13 yielded none.
  • Forensic Science Laboratory experts in Bengaluru are conducting DNA profiling and age-sex estimation on the recovered fragments to assess any links to cold cases, including the 2012 Sowjanya disappearance.
  • Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara told the assembly that the excavation exercise will end soon and warned that legal proceedings could follow if the masked witness’s allegations are disproven.
  • Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar and other ruling-party leaders have labelled the case a conspiracy to tarnish Dharmasthala’s reputation, whereas the BJP demands the witness’s identity, an interim SIT report and potential NIA involvement.
  • Police sources say the SIT is set to wind down field operations pending the forensic results and an internal report, shifting the focus to laboratory findings and next procedural steps.
