Overview
- The blaze started around 12:15–12:30 pm in shanties and scrap warehouses at Navrang Compound beside the tracks between Mahim and Bandra.
- Western Railway disconnected overhead power and held Harbour line trains on the Bandra–Mahim section as a safety measure.
- Services restarted under caution with the first Down Harbour train at 2:11 pm at 10 kmph, with restrictions eased by 2:29 pm and normal operations resuming after inspections.
- The Mumbai Fire Brigade elevated the incident to Level-2 and deployed multiple engines as cylinder blasts were reported and 10–15 plastic-scrap warehouses and nearby huts were gutted.
- Investigations are underway to determine the cause and full damage, and a separate Level-2 scrap-godown fire in Borivali later in the day was extinguished without injuries.
