Dhanush Wins Copyright Case Against Nayanthara Over Documentary Footage

The Madras High Court ruled in favor of Dhanush, rejecting Netflix India's plea to dismiss his lawsuit over unauthorized use of film visuals in Nayanthara's documentary.

Dhanush filed a copyright lawsuit against Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan, and Netflix India for using a 3-second clip from the film 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan' in her Netflix documentary without his consent.
The Madras High Court dismissed Netflix India's petition to reject the suit, allowing the case to proceed to trial.
Dhanush had previously demanded the removal of the footage within 24 hours, threatening legal action and seeking damages of Rs 10 crore if his demand was not met.
Nayanthara responded publicly, accusing Dhanush of acting out of ego and criticizing his actions as a personal attack on her and her husband.
The court will hear Dhanush's interim injunction against Netflix's Indian entity, Los Gatos Production Services, on February 5, 2025.
