Dhami Flags Off First Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Batch From Tanakpur

The launch marks the start of vehicle-enabled Lipulekh operations under a 10-batch, 18-day KMVN plan signaling easier access for pilgrims.

Overview

  • The first group of 49 pilgrims was flagged off by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday and has departed Tanakpur for the Lipulekh route.
  • Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam says reception, accommodation, health checks and security arrangements are in place and that 10 batches will leave Tanakpur over the next 18 days.
  • According to the KMVN itinerary, the opening batch is scheduled to cross the Lipulekh Pass to enter Tibet on July 10 and to return to India on July 18 after visiting Mount Kailash and Mansarovar.
  • The Border Roads Organisation has upgraded the Lipulekh corridor so the pilgrimage is now largely vehicle-based, which officials say reduces travel risk and speeds movement for pilgrims and supplies.
  • The yatra resumed in 2025 after nearly a five-year pause and is using the TanakpurLipulekh approach for a second consecutive year, which local leaders say supports border-area income and cultural ties.
