Overview
- Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 convened on August 13 with Anti-Corruption Commission officials testifying in the corruption case against former UK minister Tulip Siddiq.
- Siddiq is charged with using her familial ties to secure Purbachal New Town plots for her mother Sheikh Rehana, brother Radwan Mujib and sister Azmina, all of whom have absconded.
- On July 31 the ACC framed charges against 29 people, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and listed them as fugitives across multiple plot-allocation cases.
- Prosecutors allege Siddiq’s family also brokered the 2013 Rooppur nuclear power plant deal with Russia, accusing them of embezzling substantial funds.
- Siddiq resigned from her UK Treasury role in January and has called the trial a politically driven smear effort by the interim Bangladesh government.
