DGT's August Speed Campaign Fines 68,662 Drivers, Trend Ticks Up

Traffic authorities say the slight increase signals a continued rise in speeding during expanded summer controls.

Overview

  • From August 4–10, officers set up 2,793 control points and checked 1,021,303 vehicles nationwide.
  • A total of 68,662 drivers were sanctioned, a 6.7% infringement rate that is 0.2 points higher than April's campaign.
  • Motorways and dual carriageways accounted for 53.2% of fines, with 44.9% on conventional roads and 1.9% in urban traverses.
  • Eleven drivers were referred to judicial authorities for criminal speeding under Penal Code article 379.1.
  • Regional and local police participated alongside the Guardia Civil, which the DGT says helps unify the message on respecting speed limits.
