DGCA Tightens Oversight of IndiGo as Carrier Offers Rs 10,000 Vouchers and Targets 1,950 Flights

CEO Pieter Elbers will brief regulators after an FDTL-linked rostering breakdown.

Overview

  • The DGCA stationed an eight-member oversight team at IndiGo’s Gurugram office and at airports, ordered daily reports on cancellations, refunds and baggage, and summoned the CEO for a data briefing today.
  • IndiGo announced Rs 10,000 travel vouchers for passengers severely affected between December 3–5, on top of refunds and government‑mandated payouts, with refunds said to be largely processed.
  • The carrier said its full network has been reconnected since December 8 and it expects to operate more than 1,950 flights today, citing restored on‑time performance.
  • Fresh disruptions persisted on Thursday with at least 60 flights scrapped in Bengaluru, 36 in Chennai and 18 in Ahmedabad, taking nationwide cancellations past 100 by early afternoon.
  • Authorities cut IndiGo’s winter schedule by 10% and launched inspections at 11 airports after the Delhi High Court questioned delayed action and pressed for adequate passenger compensation.
