DGCA Test Flight at Jewar as Inauguration Timing Remains Uncertain

Regulatory checks plus pending security permissions now dictate the inauguration timeline.

Overview

  • India’s aviation regulator is conducting a check flight at Noida International Airport on October 27 as part of the aerodrome licence process.
  • Senior officials say final approvals, including some Home Ministry permissions, could push the ceremony into late November or early December, with the date also contingent on the Prime Minister’s schedule.
  • Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inspected the site on October 25 and later met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek an inauguration window in the third week of November.
  • Phase 1 will open with one runway designed for about 150 flights a day and capacity for 12 million passengers annually, with multi-runway expansion planned to eventually serve up to 300 million passengers a year.
  • Operator YIAPL, a Zurich Airport International AG subsidiary, has signed agreements with IndiGo and Akasa Air, and initial services are planned to connect roughly 10 cities, with international routes to follow.
