DGCA Says IndiGo Has Cleared All Refunds After December Cancellations

Passengers now claim CAR compensation online as IndiGo offers separate goodwill vouchers.

Overview

  • In a press note on January 16, the regulator said IndiGo informed it that refunds for December 3–5 flight cancellations were processed back to the original payment method.
  • Under CAR Section 3, Series M, Part IV, travellers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure may claim compensation where applicable.
  • IndiGo’s ‘Gesture of Care’ provides two vouchers worth ₹5,000 each, valid for 12 months, for passengers whose flights were cancelled or delayed by more than three hours during the period.
  • Eligibility checks and claims are being routed through IndiGo’s online portals, a process that has drawn criticism as some passengers continue to report refund and compensation frictions.
  • A DGCA review panel led by Sanjay K. Brahmane submitted its report on December 27, and the ministry is examining next steps after the disruptions that stranded tens of thousands.
