Overview

  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation into the April 9 death of an Air India Express first officer due to cardiac arrest at Delhi Airport.
  • The inquiry, led by Vishal Yadav and Group Captain Murtaza, will focus on medical history, rostering precautions, and the need for additional checks for pilots with known health conditions.
  • Investigators will assess whether the crew reported the pilot’s sickness to Air Traffic Control (ATC) and if ATC took appropriate action.
  • The probe will evaluate the response time of airport medical facilities and the preparedness of emergency systems to handle such incidents.
  • Revised pilot duty and rest hour regulations, aimed at improving safety and well-being, are set to take effect on July 1, following calls from ALPA for better mental health support and humane scheduling.
