DGCA Fines IndiGo Rs 40 Lakh Over Unqualified Simulators Used for Category C Training

IndiGo says it will appeal after regulators set a 30-day payment window for two senior officials.

Overview

  • Regulator findings based on late-July records concluded that training for about 1,700 pilots used Full Flight Simulators not qualified for Category C aerodromes such as Calicut, Leh and Kathmandu.
  • The DGCA imposed Rs 20 lakh each on IndiGo’s Director of Training and Director of Flight Operations for violations of Civil Aviation Requirements under Rule 162 and Schedule VI-B.
  • The order names 20 simulators at facilities in Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Greater Noida, Gurugram and Hyderabad from CSTPL, FSTC, ACAT and Airbus that were not qualified for Calicut and/or Leh training.
  • A show-cause notice was issued on August 11, and IndiGo’s August 22 response was deemed unsatisfactory, prompting the penalties.
  • Demand notices direct the two officials to deposit penalties into Bharatkosh within 30 days and outline a 30-day appeal route, which IndiGo disclosed on October 8 while stating it is contesting the order.
