DGCA Finalizes Detailed Criteria for Biannual Flying School Rankings

The regulator has set grade bands from A++ to B with specific weightings and data-reporting deadlines ahead of the October rollout.

FTOs with 85% and above will be rated as A++, 70% to less than 85% as A+, less than 70% to 50% as A, and those scoring below 50% will be rated as B (Representative photo)

Overview

  • The DGCA’s framework allocates 40% of a school’s score to operational metrics, 20% to safety standards, 20% to performance, 10% to compliance and 10% to student support
  • Flying Training Organisations will be graded A++ (85% and above), A+ (70–85%), A (50–70%) or B (below 50%) based on their overall scores
  • FTOs must submit detailed performance and compliance data by specified deadlines, with the DGCA reserving the right to audit submissions for accuracy
  • Schools falling into category B will receive formal notices requiring self-assessments and improvement plans to enhance their ratings
  • Rankings published every April 1 and October 1 starting October 2025 will help aspiring pilots and families choose institutions based on transparent quality metrics
