DFL to Display Added Time on Stadium Scoreboards From 2026

The league revised its domestic-player quota to include up to two German U23 loanees from the next season.

Overview

  • Member clubs approved both measures unanimously at the DFL assembly on Thursday.
  • In the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, the main clock will stop at 45:00 and 90:00 while the actually played stoppage period is shown separately.
  • The display will appear on stadium scoreboards or video walls beginning in January 2026.
  • The DFL said the change serves spectators, clubs, players and media by making stoppage time more transparent.
  • For roster compliance, clubs may count up to two German-licensed players who at most turn 23 in the season toward the twelve-player requirement even if those players are on loan to a German team at least at Regionalliga level.
