DFL and DFB Finalize 2027/28 Framework Calendar

Designed to prevent overlap with UEFA Euro 2028, the calendar gives broadcasters lead time to plan coverage.

Overview

  • The DFL published the framework calendar on Friday, October 30, 2026, and the DFB presidium formally approved the men's schedule for 2027/28.
  • Key competition dates set include the Bundesliga opener on 20 August 2027, the 2. Bundesliga start on 30 July 2027, the Bundesliga final day on 13 May 2028, the DFB-Pokal first round from 13–16 August 2027 and the cup final in Berlin on 20 May 2028.
  • The league fixed winter breaks to protect player recovery: the Bundesliga pauses after the 15th matchday and resumes on 7 January 2028 while the 2. Bundesliga pauses after the 17th matchday and resumes on 14 January 2028.
  • Relegation windows were pre-scheduled with first legs on 18/19 May 2028 and return legs on 22/23 May 2028 to keep promotion and demotion resolved before Euro 2028.
  • Broadcasters received clear allocation guidance so fans can plan viewing: Sky will carry the bulk of live matches and all 2. Bundesliga games, DAZN will run the Saturday conference, Sat.1 and RTL will show selected free-to-air fixtures, and ARD/ZDF will provide highlights.
