DFCCIL Seeks Approval for East Coast Freight Corridor as Western Link Nears Completion

  • The East Coast Freight Corridor from Kharagpur to Vijayawada has been designated as DFCCIL’s top priority for Railway Board sanction among three proposed routes.
  • Detailed project reports valued at ₹4.5 lakh crore covering the East Coast, East–West and North–South corridors have been submitted for approval.
  • The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor is 93.2% commissioned and its final stretch between Vaitarna and JNPT is slated to be operational by December.
  • At the Global Heavy Haul Seminar 2025, DFCCIL highlighted the adoption of predictive maintenance tools and sustainable infrastructure upgrades to support high-axle load operations.
  • DFCCIL plans to commission six more Gati Shakti multi-modal terminals this financial year and has launched a Truck on Train scheme carrying milk consignments from Palanpur to Rewari.
