DFB Reports Drop in Amateur Football Violence to Lowest Level Since Pandemic

The federation credits new on-field rules for the decline.

Overview

  • In the 2024/25 season, 829 matches were abandoned due to violence or discrimination out of about 1.286 million, with an abandonment rate of 0.06 percent and incidents reported in 0.43 percent of games, the lowest levels since 2021.
  • Reported victims fell to 6,372 from 6,710 while the number of accused dropped about five percent to 6,535, with players comprising roughly half of those accused, according to the DFB.
  • The first nationwide season using the captain rule and the Stopp‑Konzept drew positive evaluations, with the DFB saying referees applied the stoppage tool 5,264 times and only 37 of those matches still ended in abandonment.
  • The Bavarian association reported 444 cases across roughly 187,000 matches and 81 abandonments, figures below the national average, and it has forwarded 13 cases to Munich prosecutors since formal cooperation began in 2024.
  • Referees and researchers dispute the completeness of the data, citing underreporting, uneven electronic documentation and differing regional procedures that could mask a larger number of incidents.
