- The first round is complete after Bayern and Stuttgart played their rescheduled ties on 26 and 27 August, finalizing the field.
- Regionalligist FV Illertissen knocked out 1. FC Nürnberg on penalties after extra time, and Werder Bremen exited 0:1 at Arminia Bielefeld.
- The draw takes place at the Deutsches Fußballmuseum in Dortmund on 31 August and can also be streamed via Sportschau.
- Teams are split into two pots for the draw, with only Energie Cottbus and FV Illertissen remaining in the amateur pot.
- Second-round matches are set for 28–29 October, with later rounds on 2–3 December (Achtelfinale), February (quarterfinals), April (semifinals) and the final on 23 May; ARD/ZDF will show 15 selected games, while Sky broadcasts nearly all matches live.
