Dougie Hamilton, 31, suffered a lower-body injury during a game against the Dallas Stars on March 4 and has been sidelined since.
New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald confirmed Hamilton will miss the remainder of the regular season and is not expected to return unless the team advances deep into the playoffs.
Hamilton was having a standout season with 40 points (nine goals, 31 assists) in 63 games, averaging nearly 20 minutes of ice time per game.
The injury compounds the Devils' challenges, as they are also without star forward Jack Hughes and defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler for the rest of the season.
Despite the injuries, the Devils remain in third place in the Metropolitan Division and are on track to make the playoffs.
