DEVI Bus Crash at Delhi’s Shadipur Depot Kills One, Injures Two

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage to determine if negligence or a mechanical fault caused the collision.

Overview

  • A speeding Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector bus driven by Devender Kumar, 56, struck a parked Delhi Transport Corporation vehicle at Shadipur Depot around 9 pm on June 19.
  • The impact forced the DTC bus into pedestrians, fatally injuring 37-year-old Saurabh Pal of Baljeet Nagar and wounding Annu Singh, 32, and Mannu Singh, 37.
  • Police arrested and terminated the driver on the spot and charged him under sections 281, 125(a) and 106(1) of the BNS for rash driving and causing death by negligence.
  • Authorities have seized the DEVI bus and are scanning nearby CCTV recordings to reconstruct the sequence of events.
  • As a contract employee for the electric bus operator, the 56-year-old driver had been in service since 1990 before his dismissal.
