Deutschlandticket Set at €66.80 From January

An automated cost index weighting personnel, energy, operating expenses will set future annual prices.

Overview

  • The Koordinierungsrat Deutschlandticket decided on Wednesday that the nationwide monthly pass will rise from €63 to €66.80 on 1 January 2027, with the Jobticket at €63.46 and the Semesterticket at €40.08.
  • For 2027 the price was calculated for the first time by D‑Tix using a cost index that gives large weight to staff costs, includes energy and other operating costs, and applies a value factor to fixed public payments.
  • Bund and Länder continue to provide fixed compensation of €1.5 billion each per year, so rising diesel, electricity and personnel costs pushed the index higher and forced the fare increase.
  • Environmental and passenger groups criticized the rise and compared it to planned fuel subsidies, while industry bodies and some ministers said the formula brings predictability for operators and customers.
  • A damping factor tied to subscriber numbers is scheduled to start in 2028 to moderate future increases if ridership grows, but the capped subsidies mean annual formula-driven price rises remain possible and could affect long-term use of public transport.
