Deutsche Telekom Launches SMS Firewall to Combat Fraudulent Messages

Starting April 1, the new system will block malicious SMS and warn users about potentially dangerous content.

The SMS Firewall will focus on detecting and blocking messages containing links to phishing sites or malware.
Technical data such as sender and receiver information, timestamps, and embedded links will be analyzed to assess risk.
Legal restrictions in Germany limit the system's ability to analyze SMS content, protecting user privacy under telecommunications law.
Similar systems are already in place at Vodafone and 1&1, but fraudulent messages occasionally still reach users.
The initiative has been praised by organizations like the German Savings Banks Association as a significant step in fighting digital fraud.
