Overview
- The reform, set to take effect on 1 January 2027, redraws Germany's letter product rules and publishes new size and weight limits.
- The Großbrief will be allowed up to 3 cm thick and 1,000 g in weight, increasing both height and permitted weight.
- The Maxibrief will gain larger surface dimensions and a weight cap of 2 kg but be limited to 3 cm height and lose the previous extra-thick paid option.
- Maxibrief International is being dropped and replaced by a Midibrief International limited to 2 cm height and 500 g, and international letter mail will generally exclude goods.
- Deutsche Post has announced a separate price adjustment and the changes will push many private secondhand sellers to use parcel services, raising postage costs and risking returns for oversize or goods-containing international items.
