Overview

  • Deutsche Post will replace the iconic red dot on all mailboxes with QR codes from mid-2025, directing customers to the Post & DHL app for real-time pickup times, delivery windows, and postage rates.
  • Late evening pickups (after 20:00) and Sunday collections will end nationwide as items dropped after hours are sorted only the next day, and Berlin will remove dual-label mailboxes formerly marking special collection times.
  • The postal operator plans to expand its combined letter and package delivery service, targeting 90 percent of parcel shipments to be delivered with letter mail by 2030.
  • From July 1, prices for certain parcel services will shift, raising the 2-kilogram rate by €0.50 to €5.49, reducing the 5-kilogram rate from €7.49 to €6.99, and eliminating online-purchase discounts.
  • Deutsche Post says no job cuts will result from these measures due to a Verdi agreement, and delivery personnel will increasingly use vehicles rather than bicycles for parcel routes.
