Deutsche Bank Plans Institutional Crypto Custody Service

Regulatory clearance will determine when the bank can offer secure wallet and key management for a small set of cryptocurrencies and regulated stablecoins.

Overview

  • Deutsche Bank announced on Wednesday that it expects to roll out an institutional digital‑asset custody service later in 2026, subject to completing MiCA and national regulatory steps plus internal approvals.
  • The bank named five initial assets it plans to support: Bitcoin, Ether, USDC, EURC and EURAU, with tokenized financial instruments slated for later addition pending demand and approvals.
  • Deutsche Bank will manage client wallets and private keys on their behalf using layered security controls including hardware key protection, separate warm and cold storage, segregation of duties, and multi‑person approvals.
  • The service targets institutional and corporate clients in Europe, starting with Germany, and will not include retail accounts, an integrated trading venue, staking, lending, or deposit insurance at launch.
  • Deutsche Bank has drawn on prior technology partnerships, including its 2023 agreement with Taurus and reported work with Bitpanda Technology Solutions, as it positions the product to meet institutional compliance and settlement needs.
