Deutsche Bahn Signs €6.3 Billion Contract to Digitize Rail Network

Deutsche Bahn has finalized a €6.3 billion contract with multiple companies to digitize its rail infrastructure.
The project includes Digital Signal Technology (DSTW), the European Train Control System (ETCS), and integrated control systems.
Major contractors include Siemens Mobility, Alstom, MerMec Germany, and Hitachi Rail, with commitments to deliver approximately 15,500 units by the end of 2028.
The modernization addresses aging infrastructure, with some systems dating back to the early 20th century, aiming to improve reliability and capacity.
The German Railway Industry Association highlighted the agreement's role in providing planning security and fostering technical and workforce development.
