Overview
- The Berlin–Hamburg rail corridor will be closed from August 2025 to April 2026 for a comprehensive track, switch and signal renovation under DB’s €40 billion Generalsanierung program.
- DB InfraGO has confirmed modernization work at 13 stations across Brandenburg and Spandau’s Berlin-Albrechtshof, bundling upgrades into one phase instead of piecemeal projects.
- Eleven stations will be transformed into Zukunftsbahnhöfe featuring strengthened weather protection, new seating, improved lighting, barrier-free access and expanded bicycle parking.
- Long-distance trains will be rerouted via Stendal, Uelzen and Salzwedel, adding roughly 45 minutes to journey times.
- Regional connections will be maintained by additional Regio-line services and replacement buses, though some local trips will experience significantly longer travel times.
