Overview

  • A consortium including Deutsche Bahn, 1&1, Deutsche Telekom, O2 Telefónica and Vodafone has launched the GINT XT project with backing from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.
  • Initial trials on the 278 km HamburgBerlin route aim to deliver gigabit download speeds to up to 30,000 daily passengers.
  • Teams are installing compact trackside masts and prioritizing the 3.6 GHz 5G spectrum alongside lower and higher bands to enhance continuous coverage.
  • Engineers are testing solutions for signal attenuation caused by train window coatings and gaps in rural network reach.
  • The research also investigates shared base stations across operators and compatibility with the future FRMCS rail communication standard.
