Detroit Teen Charged as Adult in Sussex Street Shooting That Killed 18-Year-Old

A 20-year-old co-defendant is free on a $100,000 personal bond with GPS monitoring pending preliminary hearings.

Overview

  • Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Lorenzo Bernard Lancaster, 17, with first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of felony firearm.
  • Authorities say the shooting followed an argument involving Lancaster, Kavonta Maurice Plummer, and a 22-year-old man, and victim Cherish Hinson was not part of the dispute.
  • Lancaster is expected to be arraigned in 36th District Court on Dec. 16 and will be tried as an adult.
  • Plummer, 20, was arraigned Dec. 14 on accessory after the fact, resisting and obstructing, and carrying a concealed weapon, with court dates set for Dec. 23 and Dec. 30.
  • Police report both suspects fled the 15500 block of Sussex after the gunfire but were arrested shortly after, and Detroit Fire assisted at the scene.
