Detroit Lions Tailgate Shooting Ruled Self-Defense; No Charges Filed

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy determined that the shooter acted lawfully, resulting in two tragic deaths.

The incident occurred at Eastern Market after a Detroit Lions game, where Jalen Welch was shot and killed during an argument.
The same bullet that killed Welch also struck and killed bystander Rayshawn Palmer, who was attempting to break up the fight.
The shooter, a 40-year-old man with a concealed pistol license, was deemed to have acted in self-defense as Welch had brandished a gun.
Eastern Market officials have suspended tailgating for the Lions' next home game on September 30 out of respect for the victims.
Enhanced security measures will be implemented before resuming tailgating activities for future games.
