Detroit Airports Launch Meal Program for Unpaid Federal Workers During Shutdown

The concessionaire-backed effort supports airport safety staff who are currently unpaid.

Overview

  • The Wayne County Airport Authority activated the Federal Employee Meal Program on Oct. 20 at Detroit Metro and Willow Run.
  • Eligible TSA, CBP and FAA personnel working at the airports can receive up to $20 per day for food and beverages.
  • The benefit is available at participating retailers inside Detroit Metro’s Evans and McNamara terminals.
  • Terminal concessionaires agreed to participate to provide meals through the locally organized program.
  • Officials say the program will run through Dec. 31, 2025 unless the federal government reopens sooner.
