Overview

• The two trapezoidal tombs date to about 5,500 years ago and rank among the largest known Neolithic monuments in Poland
• Researchers completed a remote sensing survey of one tomb and have started digging into its interior for burial goods
• No artifacts have surfaced yet, but archaeologists anticipate finding pottery, stone tools or copper ornaments linked to Funnelbeaker elites
• Built by the Funnelbeaker Culture, the elongated structures measure 656 feet long and 13 feet high and align east–west, indicating sophisticated design and astronomical awareness
• Officials are evaluating conservation measures and planning safe public access once excavation and preservation work is finished
