Design Miami Opens First Asian Edition in Seoul With Curated ‘Illuminated’ Showcase

The presentation foregrounds Korean material innovation to position the city as a rising hub for collectible design.

Overview

  • Following a VIP and press preview, the exhibition opened to the public Tuesday at DDP’s Yigansumun Exhibition Hall and runs daily through Sept. 14.
  • More than 170 works by 71 designers are presented through 12 international galleries, four Korean galleries and 20 independent designers.
  • Curated by Cho Hye-young under Design Miami’s new In Situ initiative, the show adopts an exhibition format over commercial booths in collaboration with the Seoul Design Foundation, with Herald Media Group as premier media partner.
  • The selection spans heritage and experimental practices, from mother-of-pearl and hanji applications to horsehair basketry, AI- and 3D-printed celadon and epoxy-resin pieces formed with balloons.
  • Organizers highlight DDP’s resonance with Design Miami’s history linked to Zaha Hadid and say rising collector interest is reflected in prices that reach upward of 100 million won.
