Overview

• The governor will bring a proposal on Sept. 30 to the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund to deed a 2.63-acre parcel in Miami-Dade County.
• The targeted site sits next to Miami’s Freedom Tower and currently serves as an employee parking lot for Miami-Dade College’s Wolfson Campus.
• If approved, officials say the facility would be Florida’s first presidential library and could support economic development in South Florida.
• The state land board is chaired by the governor and includes the attorney general, the chief financial officer and the commissioner of agriculture.
• Lawmakers advanced SB 118 to curb local restrictions on presidential libraries, and previous scouting included Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University.
