DermaRite Expands Recall to Over 30 Personal-Care Products for Bacterial Contamination Risk

Regulators advise discarding recalled items pending continued monitoring for any illnesses.

Overview

  • The New Jersey manufacturer broadened its voluntary recall on Aug. 27 following an initial August action, with an update issued Sept. 8.
  • The affected soaps, shampoos, lotions, creams and sanitizers were distributed across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and customers were told to destroy recalled stock.
  • DermaRite cited potential contamination with Burkholderia cepacia complex, which can cause local infections and poses a severe sepsis risk for immunocompromised people.
  • An FDA notice details item numbers and labels, and the expanded list covers products expiring on or before August 2027.
  • The company says wound care and nutritional lines are not included, and it reported no adverse reactions at the time of the latest update.
