DermaRite Expands Recall to 30+ Personal-Care Products Over Bacterial Risk

FDA warns of serious infection risks for people with weakened immune systems.

Overview

  • The broadened recall spans more than 30 items, including soaps, hand sanitizers, lotions, deodorants, shampoos, antifungal creams and moisturizers, with expiration dates through August 2027.
  • Affected products were distributed nationwide, including Puerto Rico, with some sold on Amazon and at select Sam's Club locations that Walmart identified across 14 states.
  • The concern is potential contamination with Burkholderia cepacia complex, which can cause local infections in healthy users and bloodstream infections or sepsis in immunocompromised individuals.
  • DermaRite instructed distributors to remove and destroy affected stock, and consumers can contact Sedgwick at 888-943-5190 or [email protected] for recall guidance.
  • No illnesses had been reported in the latest coverage, and the FDA reports it is working with the company on the safety response.
