Derek Chang Appointed CEO of Liberty Media, Succeeding Greg Maffei

Chang will assume the role on February 1, 2025, as Liberty Media focuses on restructuring and expanding its motorsports investments.

Overview

Derek Chang, a veteran executive with experience at NBA China, DIRECTV, and EverPass Media, has been named CEO of Liberty Media.
Chang will succeed Greg Maffei, who led Liberty Media for nearly two decades and oversaw significant growth and acquisitions, including Formula 1 and Live Nation Entertainment.
John Malone, Liberty Media's chairman, will serve as interim CEO until Chang officially steps into the role on February 1, 2025.
Liberty Media plans to focus on optimizing its portfolio, including the spin-off of Liberty Live Group and advancing its investments in Formula 1 and MotoGP post-acquisition.
Chang brings over 25 years of leadership experience and will join Liberty Media's executive board, working closely with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and other key leaders.
