Overview

• The Prison Service said Brown died in hospital on 29 September while serving his sentence at HMP Wakefield.
• The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate the death in custody, which is the standard procedure.
• Brown was convicted on 6 October 2008 of murdering Xiao Mei Guo, 29, and Bonnie Barrett, 24, and was given a 30-year minimum term.
• Despite roughly 800 hours of searches, including Thames trawls, police never recovered the victims’ remains.
• Evidence at trial included traces of both women’s blood in Brown’s Rotherhithe flat and a receipt for a bow saw, gloves, rubble sacks and cleaning materials.
