Derbyshire Sign Sufiyan Moqim for Opening Blast Fixtures, with Ghazanfar Set to Rejoin Later

A rotation of overseas spinners keeps the Falcons covered across the tournament schedule.

Overview

  • Pakistan left-arm spinner Sufiyan Moqim will play Derbyshire’s first six Vitality Blast group matches from May 22, including the East Midlands Derby on May 29.
  • Mickey Arthur said Afghanistan’s Mohammad Ghazanfar is expected to return for the second half and knockout stages once other commitments finish.
  • Moqim links up again with Arthur after impressing for Rangpur Riders in the 2026 BPL, where he had the tournament’s best economy rate at 4.33.
  • The 2026 Blast runs from May 22 to July 18, and Moqim is slated to face Durham, Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Essex and Nottinghamshire twice in his stint.
  • Derbyshire’s spin group also includes England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, who joined earlier on a two-year deal after leaving Somerset.
