Overview

  • The Derby fire north of Dotsero grew to about 839 acres by Wednesday morning with 0% containment, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
  • Mandatory evacuations cover Sweetwater Road and stretches of Colorado River Road from Sweetwater to Red Dirt Creek, with an evacuation center open at Two Rivers Community Center in Dotsero.
  • Parts of the White River National Forest in Eagle and Garfield counties are closed for public and firefighter safety, and Northern Rockies Complex Incident Management Team 3 has assumed command.
  • Roughly 80 personnel with six engines, a helicopter and two hand crews are assigned, and officials say initial smokejumper efforts were hampered by burning material rolling down a steep cliff face.
  • The Lee fire stands at 137,755 acres and 68% containment as Colorado’s fifth-largest on record, while the Stoner Mesa fire is 9,006 acres and 10% contained and the Crosho fire is 2,067 acres and 22% contained.
