Overview
- Shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, a San Diego County sheriff’s deputy fired once and missed during an encounter near the 9200 block of Briette Place in Lakeside.
- Fire crews responding to a suspected overdose requested deputies, who later located the man, identified by police as 30-year-old Eric Ralls, on an embankment near Pinkard Way.
- Police say Ralls claimed he had a handgun, concealed his hands at his rear waistband, then suddenly extended his arms toward a deputy, prompting the shot.
- Ralls ran but was taken into custody moments later and taken to Sharp Grossmont Hospital for evaluation, where police say he was in stable condition.
