Overview
- Mexico’s Commission of Constitutional Points, led by Morena legislator Leonel Godoy Rangel, plans a Monday vote on a draft to amend Article 35.
- The proposal would move the period to request a presidential revocation from after the third year of the term to Oct. 1–Dec. 31, 2026.
- The revocation vote would occur on the same day as the 2027 midterm elections, when the Chamber of Deputies is renewed and 17 governorships are contested.
- The plan would also reschedule popular consultations from the first Sunday in August to the first Sunday in June so they coincide with regular election day.
- Morena cites low turnout and cost savings to justify the change, while PRI coordinator Rubén Moreira criticizes it as a partisan tactic tied to the 2027 contests.
