  • 29.8% of Spanish adults exhibit depressive symptoms, marking a 21% increase from 2019 and a 46.5% jump since 2014.
  • General depressive episodes have tripled to 14.6% of the population between 2019 and 2023, while severe cases have risen by 5.5 percentage points to 8.0%.
  • Young adults aged 15-24 face the steepest rise, with severe depressive episodes climbing from 1.0% to 5.9% over the four-year period.
  • Women report depressive symptoms at 35.1%, a rate 44% higher than the 24.4% observed among men.
  • The survey also finds high rates of hypertension (20.2%), chronic lumbar pain (19.8%) and high cholesterol (18.3%), alongside improved fruit and vegetable consumption and reduced leisure-time sedentarism.
