Denza Accelerates Australian Entry With B5 First Drive, B8 Flagship Preview and Z Coupe Spied on Track
The BYD offshoot targets a sub-$80,000 entry point to challenge established large-SUV players.
Overview
- Drive’s first run in the five-seat 2026 Denza B5 reports a potent PHEV setup—1.5-litre turbo petrol with dual motors, 31.8kWh battery, a claimed 425kW/760Nm and 4.8sec 0–100km/h—with up to 90km electric range.
- The B5’s heft (about 2897–3007kg kerb) limits payload to 600kg in base form or 490kg in the Leopard grade, which Drive notes could shrink further when towing up to the claimed 3000kg braked maximum.
- Denza Australia is targeting a sub-$80,000 starting price for the B5, with full local pricing and specifications for both B5 and B8 due later in 2025 ahead of expected early-2026 showroom timing.
- Positioned above the B5, the 2026 B8 uses a 2.0-litre PHEV with two motors for a claimed 450kW/760Nm, a 36.8kWh battery and about 90km EV range, offers six- or seven-seat layouts, is rated to tow 3500kg and lists 700kg payload at roughly 3290kg kerb.
- A production Denza Z electric sports coupe has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring, with BYD previously flagging steer-by-wire and DiSus-M suspension, and production expected in 2026 with right-hand-drive plans unconfirmed.
