Denver Council Approves $50 Million Land Deal for Summit FC Stadium at Santa Fe Yards

Bond-interest dollars fund the site purchase, clearing the way for a privately built 14,500-seat venue targeted for 2028.

Overview

  • City Council voted 10–3 to authorize $50 million for land acquisition and site preparation as part of up to $70 million in public support for the Santa Fe Yards project.
  • The city will use interest earnings from the 2017 Elevate Denver bond program via the capital projects fund, avoiding new bonds or direct general-fund spending.
  • Team ownership expects to invest roughly $150–$200 million to construct the stadium and says work will accelerate in early 2026 with a contractor already selected.
  • Under NWSL terms the stadium must be ready by March 2028, with the club opening at Empower Field on March 28, 2026 before playing home games in a temporary Centennial venue through 2027.
  • A community-benefits agreement commits about $7 million over 10 years plus $300,000 annually in perpetuity, and the city will pursue roughly $25 million in federal funding for a pedestrian bridge connecting to the I-25 and Broadway light-rail station.
