Overview
- IMD forecasts dense to very dense fog through December 31 in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and west Uttar Pradesh, with reduced visibility likely in east UP until January 1.
- Cold wave or cold day conditions are flagged in pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, north Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, with Hisar at 2.5°C and Sonamarg at −5.8°C. CPCB’s 24‑hour bulletin showed NCR air quality deteriorating to ‘severe’ in Noida (409) and Ghaziabad (404), while Delhi stayed in the ‘very poor’ range near the 400 mark, with forecasts keeping it very poor for several days.
- Dense fog disrupted rail traffic on key routes into Madhya Pradesh, though Delhi airport reported normal operations as of Sunday evening advisories.
- IMD projects light to moderate snow or rain over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from December 30 to January 2, with possible light rain in parts of Punjab, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on December 31–January 1.
