Dense Fog, Near-5°C Lows Grip Punjab and Haryana

  • Ballowal Saunkhri in Punjab recorded the state’s lowest minimum at 4.4°C, with Amritsar at 5.1°C (about 2°C above normal), Ludhiana 4.6°C, Patiala 7.0°C, Pathankot 5.4°C, Bathinda 6.0°C, Faridkot 4.9°C, Gurdaspur 5.8°C, and Chandigarh 6.9°C.
  • Gurugram was Haryana’s coldest at 4.9°C, while Ambala logged 9.3°C (around 3°C above normal), Hisar 5.0°C, Karnal 8.0°C (around 2°C above normal), Narnaul 5.5°C, Rohtak 7.2°C, Bhiwani 6.5°C, and Sirsa 7.0°C.
  • Local meteorological officials reported dense fog across many districts in both states during the morning.
  • The India Meteorological Department noted a wider cold spell across north and east India, with Delhi under dense fog and ‘very poor’ air quality (AQI 355 at 9 am) and a 7.8°C minimum.
  • Kashmir saw sub-zero nights, led by Sonamarg at minus 5.8°C, with the IMD expecting generally dry weather until December 29 and a rain or snow spell likely around New Year’s Eve.
