Dense Fog Advisory Extended Through Tuesday for California’s Grapevine and Foothills

NWS warns of quarter-mile visibility on the Grapevine, urging caution in the surrounding foothills.

Overview

  • National Weather Service Hanford issued an update late Monday morning extending the dense fog advisory to Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. for the I-5 Grapevine corridor.
  • Forecasters expect visibility of one quarter mile or less at elevations between 1,000 and 2,500 feet, including mountain highways 41, 58, 152, 168, 198 and Interstate 5.
  • The advisory spans a broad area that includes the West Side Mountains, CoalingaAvenal, the south end of the San Joaquin Valley, Mariposa–Madera and FresnoTulare foothills and lower Sierra zones, Tehachapi, Frazier Mountain communities and Buena Vista County.
  • NWS guidance urges drivers to slow down, use low‑beam headlights, increase following distance and be prepared for sudden drops in visibility.
  • Related weekend advisories in Jackson County, Oregon, and a freezing fog alert for parts of north Alabama were short‑lived and have expired.
